Chorley Show signs up to the
Third Sector
  on Climate Change

With everyone talking about the  impact of climate change on our weather and rural lifestyles, Chorley Show is leading the way by signing this Declaration and delivering positive action to inform, inspire and encourage visitors to the Show, on Sunday 12 August, to achieve practical differences on Climate Change.

For 2007, we are working with Marches Energy Agency to help our visitors calculate their Carbon Footprint, and demonstrating practical ways of reducing the impact of carbon emissions in our everyday lives; these include:

  • 33% discount on entrance to the Show for adults leaving the car at home -            featuring ‘Countryside Explorer’ buses (from Bridgnorth and Highley areas)
  • locally sourced Cleobury Country food & drinks to minimise ‘food miles’
  • ‘bio fuel’ generators to power attractions like The Big Bounce inflatable
  • fully compostable plates and ‘glasses’ to minimise landfill ‘rubbish’
  • low energy light bulbs and energy-efficiency advice will be available
  • arts workshops and other activities involving the younger generation too

We are also using grants, awarded by the ‘Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund’, and by ‘Celebrating Shropshire’s Festivals & Events’ (administered by the County Council) to develop a Carbon Reduction Plan for use in our locality, and by similar communities.

“We already have a great track record on environmental issues. Our volunteers have sorted over 12,250 plastic bottles for reprocessing since our community recycling project started at the 2006 Show……..so moving on to tackle Climate Change concerns is a natural development for us” explains Chris Tibbits, Chorley Show Chair.
